Meet The Blogger: Meet Joanna of The Polished Magpie

It's Meet The Blogger Tuesday! Did you guy miss not having it last week?

This weeks Blogger is Joanna of The Polished Magpie. I discover Joanna & her blog thru Instagram (see social media does work!) Her designs are simply amazing!

What make you start a blog?
Long story short - I was coming out of a phase of major depression, and I'd found that one of the few things I'd enjoyed doing was painting my nails. I wanted to push myself into trying nail art, and I also wanted a way of looking back and seeing how I was improving. A blog seemed the ideal choice.

How long have you been blogging?
My blog is two years old in August. Wow, time flies!

What would you say makes your blog unique?
It's the only one written by me! Haha, but seriously, my blog is my nail art journey. I'm also a huge fan of UK indie polishes, so I try to incorporate those whenever I can.

What's your favorite part of having a blog?
Being able to go back and see improvements. And also the comments people leave are lovely :)

Have you ever reviewed a product that has become something you use all the time?
I don't do product reviews. I keep thinking I should, but I never get round to reviewing the things I use!

What would you say is the downside of blogging?
It's much more time consuming than I ever imagined. And the (self-inflicted) pressure to create more content can be overwhelming if you let it.

Do you have a least favorite post that you've written?
I'm my own worst critic. If a mani didn't go to plan, I find it hard to write about. For a recent example, my latest entry to the #whencolourscollide challenge - it was a colour combo I disliked and that really came out in my mani and my blog post.

What is something you have to have while writing a blog post? Examples music, watching netflicks, drinking tea ect
I'm often writing while my other half is playing on the Xbox. I do like having background noise, usually I'll stick something on the TV but I don't really watch it. Teapigs Peppermint & Liquorice tea also helps. Or gallons of coke zero.

Do you think your blog has changed of the years?
Hopefully my nail art is better now! I've got more of a formula I follow for posts now, and standardised poses. Next I'd like to improve my photos, which probably means looking into a light box.

Are you married? Do you have any kids and/or pets?
Not married, but there is a specific guy I've been not married to for the past 22 years! No kids, and no pets since my furbaby Cleo passed away nearly two years ago. I keep nagging for another cat but no luck yet!

What was it like when you found out you were getting your first press samples?
I've never had a press sample so I can't answer, but if anyone would like to send me something I'll happily review it! Nail related, of course :)

Any advice for new bloggers?
Be yourself! Don't expect to be famous or be showered with freebies - but if it happens, awesome! Write what you'd like to read - if you're not interested in the subject when you write, it will come through.
