Today's Blogger is Christina of Lipsticks & Nailpolish. Seriously you guys she does amazing nail art & used to be a celebrity gossip blogger, how cool is that!
What make you start a blog?
I started a blog because I loved writing. I was on my college newspaper and have actually been blogging for years. Originally I had a celebrity gossip blog many many years ago, but my interests were always more about the beauty industry, so I decided to pursue that instead.
How long have you been blogging
Well I’ve had this one since 2013, originally under Lola’s Charms. But I had my other blog from 2007.
What would you say makes your blog unique?
I would say that being a cosmetologist, I give an extra bit of knowledge behind some of my posts. I like to include some information that the general public may not know. Testing out a product from a professional level and knowing why things work or don’t is nice, and I think my readers appreciate that.
What's your favorite part of having a blog?
To me it’s kind of an escape. I’ve always loved writing and reviewing products. and giving an opinion about them is something I like doing. It goes beyond it being just a hobby.
Have you ever reviewed a product that has become something you use all the time?
Oh yes. A lot of the polishes I review become staples, right now I’m obsessed over the OPI New Orleans collection, in particular Show Us Your Tips. That color is amazing. I was also sent Lancome’s Visionnaire Blur and that’s something I’ve repurchased time and time again.
What would you say is the downside of blogging?
It is time consuming. That’s time I’m not spending with my family or watching or doing something else. But it’s easy for me to balance things nicely at the moment. I can’t imagine how blogger moms do it. They’re rockstars in my eyes.
Do you have a least favorite post that you've written?
I have a plenty, actually. You try your best but sometimes either you don’t have the time or motivation to properly convey your vision. But, in my opinion, as long as you keep on doing something, it gets easier/better. There are posts I read back and go “why did I post this; it’s garbage” but it kept me going and I learn from it. I try my hardest to look at old posts or reviews and tell myself that that wasn’t the best, so let’s improve on it for next time.
What is something you have to have while writing a blog post? Examples music, watching netflicks, drinking tea ect
I usually listen to podcasts. I used to watch Netflix or Hulu, but that became too distracting. Music and podcasts are my go to while writing.
Do you think your blog has changed of the years?
Oh yeah, for the better. It’s funny, when I started out my camera was on my phone and the pictures were horrible. My nailbeds were a mess and lighting just wasn’t there. But it’s something that I learned from and hopefully, in the future, I can look back at my posts from now and learn from them too.
Are you married?
No, but I am engaged J
Do you have any kids and/or pets?
Just my dog. She hates seeing me just sitting and in her eyes, doing nothing. But she keeps me company and tells me when it’s time to walk away if I get frustrated.
Any advice for new bloggers?
Just do it. No matter what other people think or if you think your blog doesn’t look like someone else’s and you don’t like the look of it or whatever ifs, ands or buts you put in your way, keep going. Sometimes you do have to walk away and that’s ok. If you really love it then you’ll come back.
