Welcome to today's edition of Meet The Blogger! Today's Blogger is Kelly of Makeup By Kelly Heid. Here's what's pretty awesome about Kelly, she's not just a blogger she's a makeup artist too!
What make you start a blog?
In about a weeks time I had three different friends tell me I should start a blog. A while back I had a Facebook page to help grow my freelance makeup business. There I would post product reviews, tips and tricks. My friends thought it was better suited for a blog format so I decided to take the leap.
How long have you been blogging?
I will celebrate my 1 year blogger-versary on my birthday, August 4th.
What would you say makes your blog unique?
So many makeup blogs are created by beautiful, 20 somethings with flawless skin and Gucci purses; I am not that. I am the voice of a 30 something, working mother of three busy children. All of my reviews are honest and I often recommend drugstore products. I'm not one to review a $90 foundation. I mean really, who can afford that? Plus I'm kinda funny...I think.
What's your favorite part of having a blog?
Wow, there is so much I love about it. I love when someone lets me know they tried something I posted about and they fell in love with it. Sometimes I write a personal blog about where I am in life, those seem to be so touching to people and I feel like we are really connecting.
Have you ever reviewed a product that has become something you use all the time?
I have to admit that I am a product junkie. No matter how much I adore a product I seem to move on quickly to try the next latest and greatest. I have cosmetic commitment issues.
What would you say is the downside of blogging?
For me two things: the time and the fact I have no clue what I'm doing. Literally, I know how to write a post and send it, my fingers are crossed anyone is reading it. I had absolutely no idea what I was getting into to create a blog that was successful, I'm still learning.
Do you have a least favorite post that you've written?
Believe me, I'm sure there are a few stinkers in there but nothing that comes to mind.
What is something you have to have while writing a blog post? Examples music, watching netflicks, drinking tea ect
Coffee, coffee and more coffee. Also some peace and quiet is nice, but with my life that is hard to come by.
Do you think your blog has changed of the years?
Well in the year I have had the blog I think I am becoming a little more secure. I can see there is a need for my voice, an honest opinion on makeup for the aging woman who isn't hidden behind botox and lasers.
Are you married? Do you have any kids and/or pets?
I am married, for almost 12 years now. I have a daughter Lucia who is 9, my son Hudson is going to turn 8 next week and my youngest is Harper who is 5. We also have a lab Lexi who is approaching 12, with bad arthritis I find myself crying at the thought of our life without her.
This question is optional :
What was it like when you found out you were getting your first press samples?
Any advice for new bloggers?
Keep at it. Don't be afraid to ask question, even if they seem so foolish. I learn something new everyday. Don't be afraid to be yourself. I did a post on my stinky armpits for Heaven's sake! You have got to be real!
